Traditional Chinese Medicine in Victoria, BC

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic system that views health as the balance of body, mind, and energy. Practised for centuries, it continues to guide modern approaches to well-being. Acupuncturist Paige Hutchison provides TCM therapies that form part of this broader system, tailoring each appointment to the individual.

Paige holds a Diploma of Acupuncture, and her training also includes cupping therapy, Chinese massage, and diet therapy combined with acupuncture. Each modality is introduced thoughtfully, creating a calm and comfortable environment where people can explore holistic options that suit their needs.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping uses gentle suction to encourage circulation and ease areas of muscular tension. Cups may be placed on the back or other regions where tension is held. Mild marks temporarily appear afterward and are a normal part of the healing process. Depending on comfort and goals, cups may remain in place or be moved for a massage-like effect. Many people find the sensation soothing, and sessions are always adjusted through discussion to ensure comfort.

Gua Sha

Gua sha involves gliding a smooth-edged tool across the skin to stimulate microcirculation and release tension. This therapy can relieve stiffness, improve movement, and promote a sense of ease.

Tui Na (Chinese Massage)

Tui Na uses specialized manual techniques such as kneading, pressing, and stretching to improve circulation, release muscular tension, and support joint mobility. It may be applied before or after acupuncture to help reduce discomfort, calm the nervous system, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.

A Gentle and Integrative Approach

Every treatment plan begins with a thorough consultation. Some appointments may focus solely on acupuncture, while others may blend modalities such as cupping or massage. Paige explains, “Some sessions wouldn’t necessarily need to have those, but some would complement the other one.” Her practice also benefits from collaboration with chiropractors, massage therapists, and kinesiologists, allowing acupuncture and TCM techniques to integrate seamlessly within a team-based model of care. This connected approach supports the whole person and encourages a sense of balance in everyday life.
