Headaches in Victoria

woman at home hand on headThrobbing pain. A dull ache. Sudden pain or “brain freeze” after eating ice cream or consuming a cold beverage. Pain on the top of the head. As one of the most common pain conditions experienced worldwide, headaches can range from mildly uncomfortable to debilitating.

But did you know that there are many different types of headaches, each with its own unique causes and treatment options?

NEW PATIENTS

Structurally Based Tension-Type Headaches

One common type of headache is the structurally based tension-type headache. These headaches are often caused by poor posture or repetitive motions that lead to alterations in the curvature of the neck. In turn, this puts extra tension on the joints, ligaments, nerves, and muscles in the neck, leading to spasms and tightening that creates a squeezing compression around the head.

Migraines

Another type of headache is the migraine, which often presents with symptoms that differ from those associated with tension headaches. Patients may experience more tension-like headaches that eventually transition into migraines. Treatments for migraines include decompression therapy, traction therapy, and chiropractic adjustments.

Degenerative Changes

As with the low back, degenerative changes can occur in the neck over time, leading to wear and tear that can cause stress-induced headaches. Unfortunately, natural aging factors can also play a role in the development of these headaches.

Many Options to Help You Get Relief

At our practice, we offer a variety of treatments to help alleviate the symptoms of these headaches. Chiropractic adjustments, decompression therapy, and traction therapy have all been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving function. We also focus on providing patients with tools to help them maintain their health outside of the office, such as ergonomic tips for work and sleep, as well as simple exercises to help relieve tension.

The Value of Maintenance Care

For patients who experience chronic headaches, maintenance care is often recommended. Our goal is to help identify and correct the underlying issues that are causing the headaches and then work with patients to develop a plan to help them maintain their health over the long term. Whether it’s through regular adjustments or simple lifestyle modifications, we are committed to helping our patients achieve lasting relief from their headaches.
