Spinal Decompression Therapy in Victoria

When you have an injury to your spine, it can feel like your entire life is affected. Sometimes, natural aging factors or standing for long periods of time for work can cause degenerative changes that result in disc herniation or protrusion.

The spine can become compressed in these instances, leading to inflammation and pain. That’s where spinal decompression therapy comes in.

Spinal decompression is a form of non-surgical traction therapy that uses a specialized table to apply gentle, controlled pulling forces to the spine. The goal is to reduce mechanical pressure on irritated spinal joints and discs and help you move more comfortably. It isn’t the right fit for everyone, which is why we start with an evaluation.

NEW PATIENTS

If you’re new to Aria Health and Wellness Clinic, welcome—we’re glad you’re here. Your first visit starts with a thorough evaluation to understand what you’re feeling, what’s been going on, and how it’s affecting your day-to-day. From there, we’ll explain whether spinal decompression could be a good fit for you and walk you through your options in a clear, no-pressure way.

Benefits of Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression therapy provides many benefits to patients. Stretching and lengthening the spine may help ease discomfort associated with herniated or bulging discs. It can also create more space through the spine and reduce irritation around sensitive tissues, which may support improved comfort and mobility over time.

Patients often consider spinal decompression when they’re dealing with symptoms such as:

  • Low back pain or neck pain linked to disc or joint irritation
  • Sciatica or radiating pain into the leg (and sometimes the arm/hand for neck-related cases)
  • Tingling, numbness, or weakness that may be associated with nerve irritation
  • Stiffness and reduced mobility from degenerative disc changes or repetitive strain
  • Stenosis-related discomfort, depending on your presentation and exam findings

Spinal decompression can also help with other conditions, such as stenosis, which is a build-up or choking of the spinal canal. This therapy may help reduce irritation and support recovery by encouraging healthy circulation in the area.

Types of Spinal Decompression Therapy

We offer two types of traction therapy, multi-vector and decompression, at Aria Health and Wellness Clinic. Our multi-vector traction therapy is aimed at supporting posture and guiding the spine in multiple directions. We aim to ease tension in the joints, ligaments, nerves, and muscles in the neck and upper back area.

On the other hand, our decompression therapy uses special tables that pull along the y-axis (lengthwise) to decompress the spine. This creates more space between the vertebrae, which may help reduce pressure on the discs and decrease irritation. The pressure used during the session is individualized per person based on their history, MRI or X-ray reports, and injury.

Crafting a Customized Care Plan to Meet Your Goals

At our practice, we know that every patient is unique, which is why we offer personalized care plans that are tailored to each person’s needs. We work with them to determine which type of spinal decompression therapy best suits their injury.

Your evaluation helps us confirm whether decompression is appropriate and whether it should be paired with chiropractic care, soft tissue therapy, and/or rehab guidance. If we feel another approach is a better fit—or if you need further medical follow-up—we’ll guide you to the next step.
