Victoria Chiropractor | Dr. John Douglas, D.C.
In school I was fortunate enough to have one of those amazing mentors that you never forget- one of those people that end up being a voice in your head that spurs you on and encourages you at various junctures. For me that was my track coach, Jim Slepica. "Coach Slep" was a 6'2", 230 lb man who managed to take an ordinary group of skinny kids and transform us into a pretty talented team. It was under the direction of Coach Slep that I learned the power of the human body.
Given the right direction, hard work and valuable support, the human body can do amazing things. When I was a part of that track team, "amazing" was sending several of our small town track athletes to compete internationally; a couple years ago "amazing" was -- for one of my patients -- going from not being able to pick up his one-year-old daughter because his back was so sore, to being able to hold and rock her until she fell asleep.
So, my passion for health and my path to chiropractic has been a fairly clear one for me right from the start. From "Day One" I have been fascinated by the intricacies of the human body and chiropractic gives me a daily look into many drug-free and surgery-free ways of positively influencing how the body works. During my kinesiology program I worked as an athletic trainer and I had the opportunity to work closely with physiotherapists, massage therapists, orthopedic surgeons and chiropractors. It was a great experience and a rare chance to delve deeply into many health specialties. It also gave me the chance to find that one specialty that fit: chiropractic.
When I am asked to give a definition of chiropractic, I like to say that the definition is one that the patient and I have to work out together. Chiropractic is a means of helping the body to "be" in its most healthy state possible, and for each person the path to achieving this is a little bit different.
I am committed to helping you achieve your optimal health. Unfortunately, I cannot promise that I will be able to get you there. But, I can promise you that together, with direction, hard work and a lot of support I will do my utmost to get you closer.
